My publishing company, Posthuman Studios, is in the last week of our Kickstarter to fund Transhuman, our next book. It’s been very successful, raising over $70,000 to date with over 1,300 backers helping us along.

We’ve unlocked some cool stretch goals and still have some awesome ones that we’re hoping to hit: a new adventure from the people behind the Know Evil podcast series, a cross-platform character generator, and a conversion guide to the Fate roleplaying system.

I’ve been super busy lately because the company I co-own is running a Kickstarter to fund Transhuman, our next book (and we’re into stretch goals, so it’s funding plenty of stuff beyond that book.)

Running a Kickstarter is a hell of a lot of work, but it’s proving to be very rewarding, not just from a financial/security sense, but also in the outpouring of support and well-wishes from fans, friends, and family.

nerdology: I watched The Firm the other day. I hadn’t seen it and something just compelled me to watch it. When I searched for it on Amazon Instant two results came up. The first was the one directed by Sidney Pollack starring Tom Cruise that came out in 1993….

This is a quite interesting post, with some points-and-counterpoints included.

Society has a fascination with books. They are seen as more pure than many other forms of entertainment, and valued to an extreme; many people refuse to throw a book away even if it’s awful or outdated. Many are upset if a movie based on a book comes out and isn’t good — as if it somehow makes the original book worse.

Our relationship with books is complex; in many ways, more complex than our relationship with the stories themselves.
